Embracing Diversity
A pathway to living compassionately

In the mosaic of humanity, diversity is the vibrant thread that weaves us together, creating a tapestry of unique experiences, perspectives, and cultures. Here at Mud Color, we firmly believe that fostering diversity is not only a moral imperative but also a gateway to living compassionately. In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander month, AAPI for short, we highlight our Executive Director. She is of Hawaiian, Samoan, Chinese descent. She notes that there are more nationalities in her biological makeup. However, as she states, "You would never mistake me for those ethnicities."
Coreen credits her cultural heritage and the family and village that raised her for her sense of place in the world. She has traveled to many different countries and has always found favor with the host culture. Having been raised in a village-type culture, she understands the value of working together. Each person in a village unit has a job to do and freely shares with others. The fisherman cannot survive without the farmer. Neither can the leader survive without its subjects. Living in a village means embracing and accepting the gifts we have to offer and valuing the gifts of everyone else in the village.
Living with a village-type mindset is about acknowledging and celebrating differences, creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. By embracing diversity, we break down barriers and build bridges, promoting a society where kindness and understanding flourish.
Mud Color actively promotes diversity through educational initiatives, community outreach, and advocacy programs. We believe that by amplifying diverse voices and experiences, we can contribute to a more compassionate world.
